history for over three decades.

It is with great pride, and a great sense of responsibility, that EDiS Company has been partnering with Winterthur for almost three decades for the historic preservation and repair work on their facilities. EDiS has taken great pains to remain true to the history of the building and the land, maintaining the fine historic details, textures, and appearances of the era. We have also completed a series of infrastructure and support upgrades around the grounds and gardens over the years. Some of the major projects at Winterthur include, but are not limited to:

∙ Galleries Building Renovations

∙ Copeland Auditorium

∙ HVAC & Sprinkler Upgrades

∙ Pavilion Repairs & Renovations

∙ Clenny Run Repairs

∙ Historic Window Upgrades

∙ Neoclassical Construction

∙ Exterior Restorations

the neoclassical folly.

A needle’s eye in a pond, a Greek temple in the garden, an Ottoman tent sitting on a hill—these are just a few of the inspirations for Winterthur’s first-ever outdoor exhibition, Follies: Architectural Whimsy in the Garden! The exhibition showcases whimsical and classic garden structures located throughout the Winterthur estate. Follies are architectural constructions, often extravagant or picturesque, positioned within the landscape to amuse, frame a view, or pique your curiosity. EDiS constructed the Neoclassical Folly, modeled after the portico, or entrance, to a Greek temple or public building.

a stronger foundation.

In July 2017, the stormwater systems used to keep Clenny Run (which snakes through most of the Winterthur property) from overflowing was damaged in multiple places after a massive storm had come through. The piping and mortar had broken in multiple places, and many repairs were needed; stone walls, missing stones, clay reformation, regrading of sediment, rebuilding of the entrance gates, floor finishes for flooding, replacing rip-rap, and river bank repairs to offset erosion were all included.

a brighter auditorium.

During the annual closing of the museum for the months of January and February 2018, the Copeland Lecture Hall underwent renovations to revitalize its purpose in serving the Winterthur membership and staff. While renovations included sprucing-up new finishes such as paint and carpet, the most significant upgrade was in new theater seating throughout the space. ABHA Architects worked to upgrade the theater lighting to support the theater functions as well as overall improvements to ambient lighting.
