EDiS Company was hired to manage construction of the University of Delaware Lammot du Pont Laboratory. The proposed location of the building created a challenge with existing site utility locations. In an effort to simplify the network of conduits, steam lines, chilled water lines, and other vital utilities, EDiS proposed building a tunnel which would house all of the utilities. This design modification resulted in a savings for the University. The building was designed using materials similar to those of surrounding structures to blend well within the campus. The HVAC system provides 100% exhausting of the building. This highly sophisticated, state of the art research laboratory is a steel frame structure with a masonry exterior. The roofing system consists of slate shingles. The facility is supported on concrete spread footings.
