Building
The Biden Welcome Center is situated in the median of I-95 that welcomes over three million visitors a year. The project included demolition of the original building, old site improvements, and construction of a new open-plan, modern glass, steel & stone building that houses “stores”, eateries (cafeteria style), rest, and bathroom areas. The project used conventional construction and had a very high flat floor finish requirement.
Building
EDiS Company constructed the Biden Welcome Center at a blistering pace. The building was completed in less than 10 months. Not only was the schedule tight and the site logistics unparalleled with the project site situated on the median of I-95, construction took place during one of the worst winters on record in the State of Delaware. There were 99 days of lost time due to precipitation that accounted for more than 40 inches of rain. This did not prevent the project from finishing exactly on time.
Building
"With 42,687 SF to build in less than 10 months, during one of the worst winters on record in the State of Delaware, this project certainly presented its challenges. We could not have been more impressed by the responsiveness of the EDiS project team and the 120 contractors and trades people that were on site daily."
Building
Daylighting and indigenous plant life are just a few of the inherently sustainable attributes of the building. Energy efficient mechanical systems including geothermal elements, locally manufactured and harvested building products, water efficient plumbing fixtures, and low VOC finishes are just a few of the many areas that the designers focused their efforts on in producing an environmentally sensitive and sustainable design.
