EDiS Company was hired by the Riverfront Development Corporation to build the Riverfront Market. EDiS revitalized an eighty-year-old, dilapidated storage building. The restaurant shell was built on a timber pile foundation due to the poor soil conditions at the river’s edge. The structure was built on a screw anchor foundation due to the need for a semi-deep foundation system and the close proximity to the existing storage building. The existing storage building also required a major repair of its foundation system. The entire building was temporarily supported in sections to allow for each interior brick pier to be demolished and replaced while maintaining the original structure for above the first floor line. Each new pier was mounted with a special steel plate that allows the owner to re-level the first floor due to continuing settlement of the soils in this area.
