with teamwork.

They say teamwork makes the dream work – and so Kent County and the Boys & Girls Club joined forces in an unusual joint venture. Kent County Levy Court and the non-profit Boys & Girls Club teamed up in a public-private partnership to bring much-needed recreational facilities to the residents of mid-state Delaware. The recreation center, a 30,000 SF indoor sports field and gymnasium building, was funded publicly; the 25,000 SF Boys & Girls Club, housing daycare, after-school programs, and a game room, was funded privately.

two projects in one.

The Greater Dover Boys & Girls Club occupies one side of the complex, with the Kent County Recreation Center on the other side and a shared entryway and lobby between. The Boys & Girls Club uses the recreational facilities, and the County uses the classrooms for educational activities. Aside from the indoor courts for basketball tennis, soccer, volleyball, and pickleball, there is a multipurpose turf field behind the facility. The project also included new pedestrian pathways, drive lanes and parking; extensive site amenities and playing fields.
