Delaware State University hired EDiS Company to construct its first new dormitory in many years. The 110,000 square-foot, co-ed facility is comprised of two loadbearing masonry buildings interconnected by a limestone-clad, steel-framed core.
The Residence Hall’s other design features include a two-pipe, fan coil unit mechanical system and a wet-pipe sprinkler system. In addition, a new primary electric service was provided with an emergency generator that was sized to handle additional campus facilities in the future. Two layers of fiber-reinforced drywall on metal studs were also installed.
The project was not completed without challenges. Site excavation did not begin until late July and due to high ground water a well point system was required. Through well-organized construction scheduling, Delaware State University students occupied the dormitory on time.
