EDiS Company Partners with State of Delaware
In the ever-evolving landscape of construction, diversity and inclusion have become paramount. Recognizing the need to address disparities in the industry, EDiS Company is honored by our partnership with the State of Delaware in the launch of last year’s groundbreaking pilot program. This initiative aims to increase diversity and inclusion in Delaware state construction projects, marking a significant step toward a more equitable distribution of taxpayer dollars.
Addressing Disparities in Construction:
A recent study by the State of Delaware revealed a concerning lack of diversity in government spending on construction projects. Despite a population where Blacks and Hispanics constitute one-third of the total, only 2% of contracts are awarded to Hispanic or Black-owned firms. This stark disparity ignited a call for change.
The Vision of the Diversity Pilot Program:
Under the visionary leadership of the Delaware Office of Management & Budget (OMB) and the Office of Supplier Diversity, this pilot program is set to make a tangible difference. Focused on the Hodgson Vocational-Technical High School project, our goal is to achieve 7% Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) participation.
Cerron Cade, Director of the Delaware Office of Management & Budget, emphasized the need for this initiative, saying, “We had heard a lot from the community and from legislators that there was a disparity…The things that people anecdotally thought were actually true.”
The Impact Beyond Construction:
The program’s impact extends beyond the construction industry. By centering on the Hodgson Vocational-Technical High School, we aim to inspire students to explore career opportunities in construction, including ownership and operation of businesses. As EDiS Vice President Chris McCone said, “Our hope is that those kids will see an opportunity… to be workers in this industry and owners and operators.”
A Commitment to Diversity in Construction:
The Delaware Office of Supplier Diversity ensures control remains in the hands of diverse individuals and entities. This vetting process promotes the growth of certified DBEs and fosters meaningful partnerships, helping to grow diversity and inclusion in construction in Delaware for the future.
Join Us in Shaping the Future:
The final Bid Package for the Hodgson Vocational-Technical High School project is now open for bids. Contracts include a range of opportunities from roofing to electrical, offering a chance for businesses to be part of this transformative initiative.
EDiS Company is honored to be a passionate partner in this journey toward a more inclusive construction industry.
